When I was fourteen years old in 1956, I was seated with Percy John Hamer in Moorside Sec Mod school Swinton. Best of friends. I went to visit him at his home perched on the side of The Old Warke Dam in Worseley. He had a younger brother (William) who I taught to ride a bike. Only met Percy senior once and very briefly when he was unloading firewood. Met his mother who drove a beautiful Triumph Mayflower. a very rare car and shortened version of a Rolls Royce. I though that John (Percy) would inherit the company, but I totally lost touch. Wish him well if he still remembers me. David

Hi David, Thanks for sharing your knowledge of the Hamer family. All the people involved in the Ambassador had fascinating backstories.

I worked as an usherette in 1962.
It was a part time job for me for pocket money so I could have a holiday in Wales. My mother agreed to pay for the holiday I had to find my own pocket money. I decided to get the job at The Ambassador. I must have worked there for 6/9 months. I loved it. We had to wear a white blouse and black skirt. No uniform was given.
Happy days for me

Hi Joan,
Sorry, I didn't see this sooner. Thank you for sharing your time at teh Ambassador. I started this from an architectural standpoint but then was quickly absorbed in the life of the building and the people.

Thank you Hassan, It has been a fascinating journey of discovery and months of research. Just when I think I have done everything another fact or piece of information pops up. Kind regards
Stephen

This website is a great credit to all concerned,
clearly, a great deal of effort has gone into putting it together, to preserve the memory of this once magnificent building that should not have been lost.

Thank You, Christopher. The site has been a labour of love and has been a fascinating, if not sad, journey of what-ifs.
